Our committees are our community.

The responsibilities of the CGCC are broken down by individual committees. Each committee is dedicated to a unique position that serves our overall mission of enlivening the gardens of Cohasset and beyond.

Below, you can find the name and description of each committee that makes up the CGCC family.

Conservation

The conservation of our precious environment is of utmost concern for the CGCC and hopefully for us all, for it is in a fragile state and needs our careful attention. The flowers, trees and shrubs we plant can help mitigate global warming and attract bees and butterflies.  The products we choose to purchase and actions we take can be helpful or harmful to our water and air pollution, fish and wildlife.  In a nutshell, our environment and its conservation are in our hands.  Let's all do our part in helping, not hindering that balance.

Craft Workshops

Craft workshops bring together small groups of members to collaborate on creative projects. From decorative crafts such as shell wreaths and trees to textile crafts like sail stockings, projects feature seaside themes emblematic of our South Shore location. The CGCC proudly sells our handmade items at our biennial Yuletide house tour. Not only do club members learn specific design skills and produce beautiful crafts, but we also connect, collaborate and socialize during craft workshops.

Senior Center

The Senior Center in Cohasset, also known as Willcutt Commons, is well attended by the community. The seniors look forward to the regular visits from the CGCC members to create their own floral arrangements.

Yearbook

The Yearbook is created in a collaborative process with the upcoming years’ Officers and Committee Chairs to update, gather and maintain the various sections of the Yearbook and calendar.  Once all information is gathered it is formatted into a version to send to the Printer. Printed books are labeled and delivered to members typically at the first Monthly Meeting or in some cases by mail.

Junior Gardeners

This is the Community Garden Club of Cohasset’s after school program for 3-5th grader’s at the Deer Hill School. Each school year we invite 30 students to join us to learn about horticulture, floral arranging, and other fun projects that correspond with the seasons. We meet one day at month for an hour after school in the cafeteria. The students love to be part of this program and we are amazed at their creativity and their thirst for knowledge. They have become quite knowledgeable in horticulture and design.

Plant Sale

The Community Garden Club of Cohasset holds an annual plant sale on a Saturday in the middle of May.  It is currently held on the grounds of the Cohasset Historical Society on South Main Street.  We strive to offer a variety of plants, including perennials, annuals, vegetables and a few shrubs.  All garden club members are encouraged to participate in this fun, educational and rewarding event.

Floral Design

During the year, Cynthia Chace, will lead floral design workshops at the Lightkeeper’s Cottage to encourage creativity with "grocery store" flowers.  There may be specific themes, or container requirements - just so we all have fun.  Tuesday, Oct. 18th will be our first workshop.  Space is not limited.  See the Calendar for details.

Garden Therapy

Our Garden Therapy committee provides one of the CGCC’s many outreach opportunities. Typically meeting once a month at Sunrise Assisted Living in Cohasset, we provide materials (such as containers and flowers) and spend time helping the residents as they create seasonal floral arrangements.  Time with our Sunrise friends is spent “visiting” just as much as “assisting” with their creative floral endeavors.  They often display their finished creations on their dinner tables to be enjoyed by all!

Hospitality

Traditionally, our members supply an array of breakfast delights and floral arrangements for each monthly meeting. Usually the display is reflective of the season or holiday. Coordinating the member volunteers, food, display, and cleanup are the responsibility of the Hospitality Committee.

In addition, this committee has a prominent role in the Yuletide food display, President's Tea and the New Members' Luncheon.
